Description:
This tile painting is a commissioned art piece for a client's mountain house who requested a depiction of the four seasons they are enjoying in the mountains.
The challenge for this piece was to show and interpret the four seasons, each with different color representation and nature elements but still appear as one painting.
To accomplish that, I chose a color palette for each season which not only represented that season but also echoed some of the colors of the other seasons.
That way the viewer sees the entire piece as one rather than as four different pieces.
For example: the blue, white and purple of the winter scene can be found in spring.
The purple, yellow and orange of spring is also in the summer sun, and so on.
The movement of the graphic line elements are alternating between vertical (spring and fall) and horizontal (summer and winter).
.
Whereas the circles in spring are repeated in the fall trees and the swirls of the sun in summer are found in the clouds and icy lines in winter.
All applied lines are organic. The only straight lines are the grout lines and the outer border.
To blend the grout lines into the art work I chose a light color for the inside grout.
The black edge, showing a frame like glazing, is filled with a black grout.
To further diminish the grout lines, I incorporated black organic separation lines between the seasons, giving the art a collage like appearance.
The tiles are mounted on a 1/2" thick Schluter Kerdi Board with a French cleat at the back.
